Freesia cultivation schedule

Greenhouse cultivation of Freesia for the cut flower market takes place throughout most months of the year. New varieties and selections are planted throughout the fall and winter and flower between February and June the following year.  By staggering the planting schedule of new varieties, we are able to supply the auction houses with blooms over a much longer period.  At the same time, new selections are judged against the following criterion:  stem production and quality, growth rate and vase life.  Most selections are auctioned according to flower colour while the remainder are sold as mixed bunches.

Between September and January, an assortment of new and old varieties is cultivated purely for flower production purposes.
